EAGLE RAYS!

Liveaboard trip 2/1 – 11/1, 2010

Eagle Ray

Diving at Black Rock in Burma is always exciting – you’ll never know what’s gonna show up. As it turned out this trip: quite a lot! Three big Manta Rays stayed with us for the whole day, and we had several close encounters with Eagle Rays as well. A big school of Batfish swam by, we saw mating Cuttlefish and lots of different Nudibranchs.

Around Ba Wei Island, we located no less than six Thorny Seahorses, all in a different colour; yellow, white, orange, brown, black and purple, and a variety of beautiful Nudibranchs including Ceratosomas and Tambjas.

Yet another time we got lucky, and found two super-big Nursesharks at Three Islets. But even without these impressive elasmobranchs, the divesite is one of the best in the area. Tigertail Seahorses, Ornate Ghost Pipefish, big Marble Rays and, at the nightdive, Spanish Dancers and Sponge Crabs.

In the south, we were approached by the Guitarsharks. Maybe they are looking for another band member (the Drum Shark? the Bass Shark?). Who knows …
